oh my goodness yall
seriously, i can not believe it, but we slept until noon today. now i know most of you are like "bite me troka" but seriously that is a big deal. i heard larry meowing this morning but i was able to sleep through it (because jes got up and fed him- which i don't remember) and then i finally woke up and jes asked what time it was and i looked at the kitchen clock and thought my eyes were playing tricks on me. i checked my cell phone and lo and behold: 12:03. For whatever reason, I started to panic, like I had to be somewhere or like I missed an appointment. I didn't. Then I went and got a glass of juice, started heating up my day old decaf coffee and checked my phone messages (i had two- one from a nyc friend monique who may start yoga with me and one from my friend in chicago alyson that made my heart melt). so that is that. i am officially a late sleeper. for the record, we did not get to sleep until 2am, but still i usually get up at 8a even when i stay up late. it's the bat cave man, it makes you sleep. jes said "the first thing we MUST get at ikea when we go with my parents is those light colored blinds" I agreed wholeheartedly.
my trip to chicago was great. the airtrain flights were a bit trying, but i made it there eventually and azad and his new girlfriend katie picked me up. we dropped katie off at her house in the city and then went back to azad's house in skokie. I had a little something to eat and drink and then went to bed. Az had to work in the morning so I got up, checked email, watched "the girls next door" on the E channel (about hugh hefner's three girlfriends who live at the playboy mansion) and then i got ready and packed up. i then went to old orchard (the mall across from my high school) to get a blazer to dress up my outfit and to keep me warm in the freezing cold a/c of the wedding hall (ps it was an outside wedding-the jacket stayed in the car). then i got on the road to get to south bend indiana for the wedding. well it took me about 1.5 hours to get through the city on the highway (should have taken MAYBE twenty minutes) and then as soon as i hit highway 90 east (the skyway) i hit monsoon rains and had to drive about 40mph the whole way. this of course, made me late for the wedding. i missed the ceremony and got there at the pictures. my friend maria (the bride) and dave (the groom) both looked lovely. maria was so chill even though it was about to downpour on her wedding. luckily there was a tent up for the dinner and reception so it was all good. her dress was so lovely. sort of an ivory silk with lots of silver bead work on it and it was almost like a sleeveless/strapless shirt and a skirt. and her maids/matrons of honor had on these simple and elegant black dresses that tied at the waists with ribbon. very elegant wedding altogether. i sat at the "friend" table and chatted with folks about pop culture and new york and such. they had this band "whammo" or "blammo" that was really good. they did all these covers like "jesse's girl" and "brown eyed girl" and "hey ya" (by outkast). it was fun, when andre 3000 sings "shake it like a polaroid picture" both of maria's ladies kind of shook out her dress and it looked cool and aired her out a bit (it was real humid). az and katie came after dinner and danced like maniacs. i also got to chat quite a bit with maria's mom terri and that was great. she is this amazingly liberal nurse who was always cool to talk to when we were kids and she still is. maria is lucky to have her.
the next day i went to this brunch where they open all the gifts and such at david's parents house in the country in south bend. it was nice to have a chance to chat with them for a minute. they are in cabo san lucas (sp?) right now for their honeymoon (lucky). i left there and then went back to alyson and nicole's to return alyson's car and to wait for them to get back from the michigan women's music festival. they got home all dirty and beautiful and rowan, there three year old daughter had this huge grin and laughed while i tickled and kissed her. she is so tall and skinny (just like her mom) and her use of language has increased 9000% since i saw her last. while they showered she and i played and chatted and did some yoga. i got her these dvd's to do and she is so good at them. so strong and smart about it. it almost made me cry.
the rest of the night i hung with them and az and katie came over for stuffed pizza from giordano's (so good) and then they left b/c katie was itchy from the FOUR cats. me, aly and nicole chatted until about 1am about life and such. it was so good to have some down time with them. i miss them like crazy. then the next day nicole went to work in the morning (i hate it). yall she looks so sexy in her work clothes. all long and lean and elegant. then aly, ro and i went to breakfast with az and katie and then to run errands and play at the park. we also saw az's new fancy apartment. i love it and it even has a room for me! az took me to the airport and i began my journey back home. my favorite thing rowan said the whole weekend was "no way dude" apparently gramma pam taught it to her.
last night i had dinner with my friends dusty and joe (mary's sweetie and little brother respectively) so it was a celebration of people that love mary! we went to this cute little italian place maybe in soho (not sure) and it was good. we sat on these church steps and ate it and then walked around until joe had to go to some show and dusty, jes and i stopped in at this place called tenement for a drink in the garden. it was nice to see dusty too. i haven't seen her in a long while and i miss her. we left dusty at broadway and houston and headed down to the subway for a long and hot ride home. clearly, it exhausted me.
today i work and jes reads for school. this evening once it cools off, we may train/walk or ride our bikes to the promenade on the water (i think its like the "west coast" of brooklyn). i am certain many of you have seen this area in films and television shows. i will take pics to post. soon i will post pics from maria's wedding too.
congratulations to my friends rachel and josh liss (high school). they had their second son henry on july 22nd. he is perfect, just like his big brudda joseph, who i must say, looks EXACTLY like rachel. much love to you all.
