a lovely last few days
let me first say that jes and i stayed up until after 1am watching the final episode of the l word second season. i feel now that i can post about my feelings on the show. i hope to complete that post this weekend. before that though, a few words about the last few days.
i have a wonderful wednesday. jes's training got cancelled so we went SHOPPING. she used the gap gift card my sister gave her and got a real deal. she bought two fitted men's button down shirts and still had some money left over. they were on sale AND buy one get the second one half off. i LOVE that! after shopping we went up to higgins' house for dinner. but before dinner we hiked to vermont, i think. just kidding. see, higgs lives near the cloisters and i told her i would love to see the park area around her house. well over an hour later, jes and i were huffing and a pufffing up some trail while higgins was not even phased. the views were gorgeous: rocks, the changing leaves, the water and skyline. even though i was sweating my balls off, it was really nice. after that we stopped to get some coffee at the dunkin donuts (yall its so good!) and then headed back to her place for dinner and conversation. her place is so cute yall. i mean she really has a gift. no matter how big or small her places are, they always look just right. and its weird b/c she usually has the same stuff in each place, but some how it shrinks or expands to fit the place. anywho, it was real relaxing and nice. she walked us to the subway b/c she was going to get herself a nice little manicure for the holiday.
our thanksgiving was chill but nice. we slept late and then went and saw rent. the play is better, but rosario dawson is hot. for real. but she doesn't have the pipes the original mimi had. roger's hair is ridiculous, and i just found out from jes that much of the film was done in san francisco's tenderloin area. this, of course, made me sad. it was also hilarious that in the film they ride the f train (the subway we take to and from the city and jes's school) and it was all graffitied and shitty. for the record yall, that is not how it looks. i mean maybe in 1989 it did, but now the f train is very clean and nice (well i mean as clean as things get in new york). after rent we went and had thanksgiving dinner at cattyshack with my friends julie and liev. they are visiting from columbus, ohio. it was quite a spread there and not too crowded which was nice. we got to chat and eat and then they headed out to hoop it up and we came home. jes had cramps most of the day so we didn't want to push it. i think we watched a few l word episodes then and then went to bed.
we were awoken at about 6am by a large explosion sound. now being from the cold midwest, i figured an electrical station or box had exploded b/c of ice. then i looked outside and it was not really icy or snowing. then i heard fire engines and i thought "hmm wonder what that is all about." i heard two more booms and then the power started to flicker so i jumped up to unplug my computer and told jes to do the same for hers. i heard the ladies upstairs stirring so i thought maybe we should be alarmed. i went outside and they heard me and opened their window and told me that what i heard was manhole covers exploding and hitting the bottoms of cars. i guess it has something to do with salt and the pipes or something. needless to say, there were guys working on it all day and all night AND we had no power for a good part of the day. this meant no lights, no phone, no internet and NO HEAT. jes had a training to attend and i went to workout. by the time i got back and ate a sandwich, the power came back on.
jes and i spent the evening at tea lounge. her working on her outlines for finals and i worked on, yes, its hard to believe, my dissertation. my friend molly read my last chapter and gave me all these great suggestions and edits. so i worked on incorporating those. then when i finished that and my brain hurt from the loud music and chaos at tea lounge, i just played on the internet until jes was done. then we walked across to the co op and did a little shopping. fyi, the coop is wonderful at about 8:30pm on a friday night. not crowded at all. then we caught the bus, came home, made some dinner and watched the remaining lword episodes. i cried like a baby over bette's deal with her dad (trying to not spoil it for yall who are not caught up). i checked with jes to make sure she was crying too, b/c i felt like i was going soft crying at the lword. she agreed the episode was sad, so i continued to cry. i was woken up this morning by larry who was meowing like a crazy cat and then he proceeded to jump on the bed and step on my boobs about 100 times. not fun.
today we study and have brunch with julie and liev. i guess we are going to "tom's diner" in prospect heights. this is the tom's diner that susanna vega sang about oh so long ago. emily is all snuggled up to me and the warmth of the computer. she is such a sweet babygirl.
ok as a break from dissertating this afternoon, i hope to begin my treatise on the lword. stay tuned...
happy birthday to my friend alyson. she has beautiful red hair and she always smells good.
